Women empowerment! Two women army officers selected to train as combat pilots

New Delhi, June 09: For the first time in the Indian Army's history, two women Army officers have been selected to undergo helicopter pilot training, the Indian army informed on Wednesday. These two women are among the 47 army officers who will their training at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik, Maharashtra from Monday.

 

 

 

According to the Indian Army, a total of fifteen women officers volunteered to join army aviation, however, only two officers have qualified through the stringent selection process to include the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) and medicals.

 

 

The batch will be joining the frontline flying duties on the completion of their training in July 2022. This is a major milestone in the Indian Army as women officers had been assigned only ground duties in the Army Aviation Corps.

 

 

This development comes months after army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane cleared a proposal for allowing women officers to opt for the army’s aviation wing. Till now, women officers were assigned only ground duties in the Army Aviation Corps.

 

 

Last month, 83 women jawans were inducted into the Corps of Military Police (CMP). The attestation parade of the soldiers was held at the CMP Centre and School at Bengaluru earlier last month. The attestation parade was commandeered by Brigadier C. Dayalan, Commandant of the CMP C&S.
