From ZP to World Bank! ZP teacher Disale appointed as World Bank's Edu advisor

New Delhi, June 02: It is one of the proudest moments for India, as after receiving the Global Teachers Award and becoming the first Indian teacher to do so, Ranjit Singh Disley, has been appointed as the education advisor to the World Bank for the 3 years. With that, he will be an advisor to the World Bank until December 2024.

 

Recently, World Financial institution launched the Global Coach Program. The new initiative focused on accelerating learning by helping countries improve in-service teacher professional development (TPD) programs and systems. This program forms part of the World Bank’s broader agenda to tackle the global learning crisis (WDR, 2018).

 

“Coach encompasses support to countries to improve different forms of TPD —one-to-one coaching, group training sessions and workshops, and other approaches, either through in-person, remote or hybrid modalities—to increase the quality of teacher-student interactions, which is key to improving student learning outcomes,” reads the official statement on the website. According to the World Bank, it has appointed 12 advisors from the world over and Disale is one of them representing India.

 

Reacting to the news, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar congratulated Disale for being appointed as a World Bank consultant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad congratulated Disale. She said,“Admirable! Winner of the 'Global Teacher Award. Congratulations on his appointment as World Bank Education Advisor!”

 

 

 

 

Talking about the appointment Disale said he had been working with the World Bank and had given speeches on the topics such as “Future of the Government” and “Supporting Teachers in the Age of Pandemic”.

 

Disale’s work through the Advisory Board will impact the work of the World Bank on the ground, currently supporting over 18 million teachers around the world.

 

 

Ranjitsinh Disale is a primary school teacher from Paritewadi in Solapur in Maharashtra. He had won the Global Teacher Award in 2020. 

 

 

 

He is well known for his innovative teaching works, including demonstrating scientific experiments from the science lab. He has converted primary category books into QR codes so that his students can get links to audio poems, video lectures, assignments, and stories. His idea of incorporating QR codes into textbooks was adopted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
