New Delhi June 28: In a big success, Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Gurjot Singh who is one of the key accused in Republic Day violence at Red. According to the police, the wanted has been nabbed from Amritsar in Punjab.
"One person namely Gurjot Singh, who was wanted in FIR number 96/21 ( Red Fort case) and a reward of Rs 1 lakh has been declared on his arrest, has been arrested by a team of Northern Region (NR) of special cell from Amritsar, Punjab," said police.
Gurjot was absconding since the January 26 incident of violence and riots in Delhi. Since then, the police were tracing the accused in Delhi and Punjab. According to DCP Special Cell Sanjeev Yadav, in February 2021, Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh for anyone who provides information about him.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet and a supplementary charge sheet over the probe into the Republic Day violence. Nearly 43 different cases were registered with the crime branch, special cell, and local police. Till now police had arrested over 150 persons in connection with various cases relating to Republic Day violence.
On 26 January 2021, Farmers broke out violenc and created riot like situation in the Delhi. The "peaceful protester" clashed with police and vandalised properties in several parts of the national capital.
