Indian Army mobilizes 2 field hospitals from North East to Patna to assist Bihar

New Delhi, May 7: The Indian Army has mobilized two field hospitals from the North East to Patna to assist the Bihar government in fighting escalating cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Medical officers and other support staff of the two hospitals will be utilised to set up a 500-bed facility at Patna. The hospital will have 100 ICU (intensive care unit) beds. "These field hospitals, which include medical specialists, medical officers, nursing and support staff will be utilised for establishing a 500 bedded hospital at ESI Patna including 100 ICU beds," the Indian Army said.
 
 
Further, it added that In order to make up the strength of medical staff at the hospital, additional specialists, medical officers, nursing staff as well as trained Infantry Battlefield Nursing Assistants are being moved by air over the next two days.
 
 
The Army, which has deployed considerable medical resources to assist civil authorities in the fight against COVID-19 and is providing medical care to veterans and their dependents, has also established an COVID Management Cell under a Director General rank officer to coordinate multiple facets of staffing and logistics support.
 
"In order to coordinate multiple facets of staffing and logistics support, an exclusive COVID Management Cell under a Director General rank officer has been established which reports directly to the Vice Chief of Army Staff," the Defence Ministry said.
 
"This will bring in greater efficiency in coordinating real time responses to address exponential rise in COVID cases across the country including Delhi where assistance to civil administration in the form of testing, admissions in military hospitals and transportation of critical medical equipment are already being provided," it added.
