WATCH: DRDO sets up a 500-bed COVID hospital in record time!

New Delhi, May 6: In a major development in order to mitigate the coronavirus cases, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) set up an Atal Bihari Vajpayee Covid Hospital of 500 bed capacity in record time.

The 500-bed COVID-19 hospital in Lucknow started to function from Wednesday afternoon. The COVID hospital will be manned by medical officers and paramedical staff from Armed Forces Medical Services.
 
"Atal Bihari Vajpayee Covid Hospital of 500-bed capacity has been set up by DRDO at Lucknow in record time. The hospital is being run by a team from Armed Forces comprising of doctors of many specialties along with nurses & paramedic staff," the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
 
 
The hospital has 500 beds out of which 150 are ICU beds with ventilator facilities and 350 beds are with oxygen facility. There will be no charges for facilities available in the hospital. Food will also be provided to patients free of charge. The Armed Forces have provided 30 Medical Specialists, 28 Medical Officers, 06 Officers for administrative support, 51 Nursing Officers, 110 Nursing Assistants/Technicians & 79 Support Staff.
  
Intensive training, quality checks of equipment, a dry run of admission & COVID protocols have been completed prior to operationalisation. The state government is facilitating essential amenities, services management, oxygen re-supply, patient management & waste disposal. With the help of the state government, DRDO has made arrangements for oxygen and medical supplies which will also be given free of charge.
