The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) taking cognizance of the violence on kids in the State of West Bengal has demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter as well as against the errant Police officials who are involved in it publically. This is probably after a complaint was recieved by the Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) and the NCPCR revealing intense involvement of West Bengal Police in looting around 500 houses, attacking kids and women.
SP Avijit Banerjee (Diamond Harbor), IPS, has been put back to the post after the state assembly elections. It is observed that he is unofficially relinquishing his duty to political leader of ruling party Jahangir Khan who is of criminal background. "Khan himself is monitoring attacks on opposition workers, looting of houses, burning of properties. Not only that, the whole Diamond Harbor Police District officials are being controlled by Jahangir Khan and SP Avijit Banerjee, IPS is actually doing nothing to exercise his duties", the complaint read.
According to the report further, the Bengal Police, obeying to the orders given by Jahangir Khan has raided village Khordo Nala, (PS-Ramnagar) and severely bashed the kids, women and arrested 27 adults on false charges. All kids are living under constant fear of police and political goons, it added.
Goon Jahangir Khan has so far left 600 families homeless, more than 70 women molested, more than 100 children starving, more than 350 houses looted and vandalized. Further it is significant to note that more than a 100 people have been injured and 40 have been jailed on false charges till date. "Even today, there are 13 people jailed, two innocent presidents locked up on false charges, eight houses been set on fire, 35 shops looted, over 100 shops shut, field paddy not allowed to be picked up".
The terrorism unleashed by SP (Diamond Harbor), political goon Jahangir Khan has left deep scar on minds of 200 kids. The NCPCR said is of the view that the Police authorities instead of taking required remedial measures for bringing the peace, harmony and law and order situation of violence affected area into normalcy, is allegedly threatening the females and children of the locality which is indeed a matter of concern. The commission has also sought the statements of affected children in a child friendly manner and the inquiry report within 7 days.
