Govt updates CoWin; will not allow Covishield second dose before 12 weeks,

New Delhi, May 17: As soon after the govt extends the gap between the doses of Covishiled vaccine, the Centre has reconfigured the 'CoWin' vaccination registration portal, to reflect the change in dose interval of Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks.

Here are the changes:-
According to the new changes, online or on-site appointments for the Covishield vaccine not possible if the period after the first dose for a beneficiary is less than 84 days.
 
Apart from that, National Health Mission informed that already booked appointments for the second dose of COVISHIELD vaccine would remain and were not being canceled by CoWIN. However, they advised beneficiaries to reschedule their appointment to a later date 84-days after they received their first dose.

Moreover, the government has advised the states and Union territories that even if such beneficiaries do come for vaccination, "the second Covishield dose must be administered and they must not be turned away".
 
 
Last week govt extended the gap between two Covishield to 12-16 weeks from 6-8 weeks after they received the recommendation from Covid Working Group chaired by Dr. NK Arora. So far, over 18.22 crore doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in India, while nearly 4.05 crore beneficiaries have received both doses.
