Mumbai, May 17: Amidst what we can call as the new threat posed by the nature in name of Cyclone Taktae, a vessle coromondel supported IX, a tug/supply vessle has lost its control due to bad weather conditions levaing nine of the crew members terrified, waiting for the rescue. It is since May 15 that the vessle has been sailing in the sea waters without any direction and cause.
In a twitter update provided by Drop The Anchor, the ship was visibly tilted and stuck between the rocks. The user also posted a series of tweets explaining the situation of crew members on the ship. The vessel is currently grounded between rocks at six nautical miles from Kaup coast (Karnataka) with nine crew members on board. They are stuck at sea at ‘Mulki Rocks’, off the coast at Udipi district, Karnataka. Coastguards are unable to provide support due to bad weather.
The crew members stuck are without any food supply, and their mobile batteries have also been drained out as revealed. Further a video on social media by one of the crew members requests the Indian government for rescue. He's seen saying, “Please help us, sir. We are waiting for the chopper.”
M/s Atlantic Shipping owns the vessel, and it has been operational since 1981 and sails under the flag of India. The vessel’s contract with Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) as reported had ended last year in December, and they were waiting at outer anchorage since May 5 for instructions from the owner.
