Odisha forms a state committee to monitor Mucormycosis cases in state

Bhubaneswar, May 15: In the middle of the pandemic when the cases of the black fungus aka Mucormycosis is rising in the country, the Odisha govt took the action and formed a state-level committee to monitor such cases in the state.

 

The state-level committee will comprise seven members. It will monitor the incidence of Black Fungus in patients admitted to different hospitals and formulate a guideline for early management.

 

An official release read, "In view of the reported rise in the incidence of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) amongst the COVID-19 patients on Corticosteroids and other immunosuppressive drugs and also amongst patients in the post COVID period in the State, Odisha Government has constituted a State Level Committee."

 

 

Apart from it, the state health minister has also asked the hospitals Government Medical colleges in the state to constitute an expert committee each comprising of members from the Department Of Medicine. It will coordinate and manage such cases in the hospital.

 

According to the govt, all Government Medical colleges will create facilities for the detection and management of such cases in the Department of ENT and Ophthalmology for RT-PCR negative and or post-COVID patients.

 

Odisha had reported a total of at least 5 such cases. Odisha recorded 12,390 new cases in the last 24 hours.
