New Delhi, April 09: 119 Hindu organisations raising their robust voices against the 'Hindu Hatred' being spread intentionally at Oxford University have demanded suspension of Dr Abhijit Sarkar and then his removal after thorough investigation. This is probably after the Rashmi Samant incident who became the first Indian female to be elected President of the Oxford Students Union with a landslide victory but was forced to resign.
An official letter by the Indian Diaspora United Kingdoms to Boris Johnson read that Dr Abhijit Sarkar, a faculty member instigated hate filled trolls against Samant on social media which led her to go into hiding and finally leave the country. "He continued to stalk her on social media, attacked her and her family for their Hindu faith and beliefs which led her to severe depression and hospitalisation", it added.
Sarkar's post reflect his racist and bigoted views with multiple misogynistic and sexualised comments including gender slurs to various women on social media. This amounts to a breach of the University's Equality Policy, and policy and procedures on harassment.
In spite of the global outrage including the discussion in the Indian Parliament, hundreds of emails, around 50,000 signatures on online petition and nearly 100 hate crime complaints to the Police, alarming there is not a single statement by the University nor by the Thames Valley Police to ally to the concerns. Sarkar has travelled to UK on an Exceptional Talent visa. The letter dated April 8 further demands the Home Office to review his visa status in veiw of his racist and hateful actions on social media.
Oxford is a world renowned education centre with a very large population of international students. Indian students rank second in the number of overseas students in UK. This said incident is set to have a detrimental impact on the Indian students if Oxford University and Thames Valley Police do not seem to take any decisive action.
