New Delhi, April 30: As India continues to grapple with the second wave, United States Super Galaxy flight carrying the COVID emergency aid supplies including 400 cylinders has landed at New Delhi International Airport this morning.
In a tweet, the US Embassy shared pictures of the supplies and said, "The first of several emergency COVID-19 relief shipments from the United States has arrived in India! Building on over 70 years of cooperation, the United States stands with India as we fight the COVID-19 pandemic together. #USIndiaDosti (sic)."
Apart from 400 cylinders, the emergency aid supplies also include 9,60,000 Rapid Diagnostic Tests, 100,000 N95 masks and other medical equipment. The first consignment of relief material took off from the Travis military base in California on Wednesday. It took off soon after a dialogue between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Joe Biden.
Moreover, the US has also dispatched raw materials for vaccine production. The US is also providing the first tranche of a planned 20,000 treatment courses of the antiviral drug Remdesivir to help treat hospitalised patients.
The White House had previously stated that the US State governments, private companies, non-government organisations, and thousands of Americans from across the country have mobilised to deliver vital oxygen-related equipment and essential supplies to Indian hospitals during the current outbreak.
Under this aid, the US is going to send several planes carrying relief material to India over the next week.
According to the External Ministry, more than 40 countries have committed to sending vital medical aid, particularly oxygen supplies. The supplies include almost 550 oxygen-generating plants, more than 4,000 oxygen concentrators, 10,000 oxygen cylinders as well as 17 cryogenic tankers.
In the last 24 hours, India's clocked 3,79,257 fresh COVID-19 cases and 3,645 fatalities, taking the cumulative caseload to 1,83,76,524 cases and the death toll to 2,04,832.
