New Delhi, April 30: The USA's Hindu faith-based service nonprofit organization, Sewa International, came forward to help India when the country is witnessing a sudden surge in Coronavirus cases. The orgnisation dispatched the first batch of 2,184 oxygen concentrators from Atlanta when the country is dealing with a shortage of oxygen.
According to the organisation, United Parcel Service UPS is shipping them for free from Atlanta to Delhi and Air India will ship them to seven cities in India, also free of charge.
"Our hearts and prayers go out to India. We are working with our partners to deliver much-needed medical equipment. The first shipment of over 2,000 oxygen concentrators for Sewa International are on their way," the UPS Foundation tweeted.
Gitesh Desai, a spokesperson of Sewa International, informed that the oxygen concentrators were procured using donations from Indian-Americans to help India fight this crisis. The organisation has raised nearly USD8 million towards COVID-19 relief efforts in India. The organization has also ramped up its social media fund-raising goal from the earlier USD5 million to USD10 million now.
Moreover, Sewa is trying to build a digital helpdesk to provide critical information on ambulance services, hospital bed availability, and blood and medicinal supplies to people.
According to its social media post, Sewa International has volunteers working both in the US and India, coordinating the work of raising funds, procuring medical equipment supplies, and getting these to hospitals and institutions. Its volunteers in India are providing essential supply kits to low-income families. Each kit contains groceries, basic medicines, masks, sanitizers, and hygiene supplies.
Besides them, earlier, VHP of America has sent oxygen generators and medical equipment from Chicago to India.
