Tamil Nadu extends night curfew and imposes lockdown on Sunday

Chennai, April 29: Amid rising COVId cases in the state, the Tamil Nadu government has extended the existing state-wide night lockdown restriction, and imposed the Sunday lockdown until further orders.

The night curfew will continue to be enforced throughout the state from 10 pm and 4 am. During the night curfew, private/public bus transport, auto, taxi, and private vehicles will not be permitted. Intra-state and inter-state private/public bus transport will not be permitted from 10 pm to 4 am.
 
Auto, taxi, and private vehicles will be allowed to ply for medical emergencies and rail/air passengers only. Movement for essential services will be permitted during the night curfew.

According to the new guidelines, there will be no restrictions on the movement/transport of officials/party functionaries such as candidates, chief agent, counting agents, food suppliers on Sunday, May 2nd, when the counting of votes for the state assembly elections and Kanyakumari Lok Sabha by-poll is to take place. Moreover, govt also permitted Chennai Metro Rail to operate skeletal services during the complete lockdown on Sundays.

Besides, considering government exams, the state govt allows candidates/students appearing for the SSC/UPSC/RRB/TNPSC examinations on the production of valid admit cards. During the complete lockdown, e-commerce and food delivery will be permitted in restaurants from 6 am to 10 am; 12 noon to 3 pm; and 6 pm to 9 pm, the order said.
