Outsiders not welcomed in tourism sector! Ladakh Tourist Trade Alliance passes resolution

Leh, Apr 29: Ladakh Tourist Trade Alliance passed a resolution discouraging investments by outsiders in any form, in tourism sector. The Alliance consisting of six tourism Trade associations, all major political parties and religious organizations have signed on the resolution on Wednesday, in Leh.

Tourism industry contributes over 50 per cent of Ladakh economy with nearly 70 per cent dependency of locals for employment in various forms. Most of the tourism infrastructure was developed by the locals. To protect the avenues for entrepreneurship and livelihood for locals in world famous tourist destination Ladakh, the Ladakh Tourist Trade Alliance convened meeting with all stakeholders, political parties and religious organizations.
 
 
 
 
 

The meeting passed resolution to discourage and oppose investment in tourism sector from outside the region, in any form. Exploitation of resources with hidden or declared, direct or indirect through agents will be opposed and impose restrictions on such efforts. Restrictions will be in the form of non-cooperation by travel trade fraternity, community and political organizations.
 
Ladakh Buddhist Association President Thupstan Chewang said all political parties and religious organizations will stand by the travel, trade associations to protect their livelihood in Ladakh. LATTA Chairman PT Kunzang said, resolution will be followed up at administration level as well. On the other hand, tourism industry in Ladakh is severely affected due to corona pandemic consecutively for the second year.
