Massive earthquake hits Assam; PM assures all possible help

Guwahati, April 28: India's northeastern state of Assam shook up with a massive earthquake of magnitude 6 on Wednesday morning. The massive earthquake struck at 7:51 am, causing cracks in the walls and floors of some structures. According to the government, no immediate casualties were reported in the state.

According to the NCS, the epicenter of the quake was 43 km west of Tezpur at a depth of 17 kilometers.
 
Following the first major earthquake, at least two aftershocks were also felt one around 7:55 am and the other a few minutes after that Two aftershocks, one measuring 4.3 on Richter took place at 7:58 am with its epicenter 30 km away from Tezpur town and the second measuring 4.4 on Richter scale at 8:01 am, 39 km from Tezpur.
 
 
"Big earthquake hits Assam. I pray for the well-being of all and urge everyone to stay alert. Taking updates from all districts: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal," Assam CM said in a tweet.
 
Soon after the earthquake hits Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah dials up Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and assured all possible help from the center.
 
 
 
 
"Spoke to regarding the earthquake in parts of the state. Assured all possible help from the Centre. I pray for the well-being of the people of Assam," the Prime Minister tweeted.
