New Delhi, Apr 27: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned all the victory processions in five states of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry that went to polls last month. West Bengal still has to complete the two phases of the assembly elections.
The counting of votes in all these states will be done on May 2 and the results will also be announced on the same day.
The decision to ban the victory processions has been taken in view of the increasing spread of Corona Virus pandemic, sources said.
It may be mentioned that the Madras High Court has held the ECI responsible for the spread of the deadly corona virus asking why not the ECI be slapped with ‘murder’ charge?
The sources in the Election Commission said that an exhaustive order in this regard will be issued soon.
It has been the practice in our country to take out victory processions with the winner candidates on or after the counting of votes and declaration of results.
