Kerala drops lockdown plan, issues fresh guidelines amid a sudden surge

Thiruvananthapuram, April 27: With the aim to tackle the covid 19 in the state, CM Pinarayi Vijayan led the Kerala government has dropped the plan of lockdown and issued fresh guidelines in view of the alarming covid rate in the state.

The Chief Minister said although curbs would be made stricter, the government does not want to see construction and manufacturing sectors coming to a standstill. “All productive sectors should move ahead with the economic activities. Hence, the government is dropping the idea of a complete lockdown. Agriculture, industry, SMEs, NREGS, and such sectors should function to maintain Covid-19 protocol,’’ he said.

As per the new guidelines, cinema halls, malls, gyms, clubs, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks will remain closed until governments further order. Only essential services will remain open in the state. State govt also prohibits, all social, political, cultural, and religious functions/gatherings in the state until further order. Hotels and Restaurants are allowed only takeaways.

Apart from fresh guidelines, govt also imposed the weekend lockdown in the state.
 
This decision was taken during an all-party meeting chaired by CM Vijayan. The meeting was held online in view of growing covid cases. In the meeting, all party members agreed to support the state govt's decision. The meeting also decided to ensure that all the district administrators strictly enforce the guidelines, especially when it came to the holding of weddings and funerals with the numbers to be kept at the bare minimum.

Kerala on Saturday recorded 26,685 fresh cases.
