New Delhi, April 19: : In a bid to steam the Covid-19 in the national capital amid the alarming surge in the cases, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government imposed a six-day complete lockdown in Delhi from tonight onwards. The lockdown will come into effect at 10 pm on Monday, and be in force till 5 am next Monday.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made the formal announcement regarding the lockdown following the his meeting with Lieutenant Anil Baijal. Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi’s health system has been stretched to its limit, is under stress. Harsh measures will have to be taken to prevent a collapse of the health system. In the next 6 days, we will make arrangements for more beds in Delhi. We thank the Central govt for helping us. The lockdown period will be used to arrange oxygen, medicine. I request everyone to follow the guidelines.”
During the announcement, he requests the migrant workers not to leave Delhi. He said, "I appeal to you with folded hands. It's a small lockdown, only for 6 days. Don't leave Delhi & go. I'm very hopeful that we won't need to further extend the lockdown...Govt will take care of you."
He further said, "I don't say that the system has collapsed but it has reached its limits and is currently under stress." Asserting that harsh measures will have to be taken to prevent a collapse of health systems, Kejriwal said that in the next 6 days, Delhi will make arrangements for ore ICU beds and oxygen.
What will Remain Open and What will be Closed Here?
- According to the orders, essential services, food services, medical services will continue to work. Meanwhile, Gyms, Spas, cinema halls, auditoriums will remain closed and Private offices too will remain closed in the national capital.
- The state govt has allowed 50 persons for marriage gathering on the production of soft or hard copy of marriage card. Besides this, only 20 persons were allowed to the funeral-related gathering.
- Moreover, home deliveries and takeaways will also be allowed. Banks and ATMs will also remain open.
- Those who will be going for testing or vaccination will also be exempted from the production of valid IDs.
- Media persons will be exempted to move during the curfew on the production of a valid ID card.
- Besides, there is no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement/transportation of essentials goods. "No separate permission/e-pass required for such movements and religious places shall be permitted to open but no visitors will be allowed," it added.
Delhi on Sunday recorded the biggest jump in its daily COVID-19 tally with 25,462 fresh cases as well as 161 deaths, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 percent.
