Chennai, April 17: South India actor and comedian Vivek passes aways due to a massive heart attack in Chennai on Saturday morning. The actor was 59.Vivek was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state around 11 am to SIMS hospital, Vadapalani, Chennai on Friday.
As per a medical bulletin released by the hospital, he was resuscitated in the emergency room by specialists. Later he underwent Emergency Coronary Angiogram followed by Angioplasty. According to doctors, the actor had a 100% blockage in the LAD (left anterior descending artery) vessel which led to a massive cardiac arrest.
Vivekh, a Padma Shree recipient, has acted with top Tamil heroes including Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith Kumar. He has also appeared as the lead artiste in a couple of movies and has been involved in social causes including afforestation.
“Actor Padma Shri Dr. Vivek was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state by 11 am today to the emergency by the family members. He was resuscitated in the emergency room by specialists. Later, he underwent Emergency Coronary Angiogram followed by Angioplasty. He is currently in critical condition on ECMO in the Intensive Care Unit. This an acute coronary syndrome with cardiogenic shock. This is a separate cardiac event. It may not be due to COVID vaccination (sic)", the hospital statement read.
The hospital has clarified that the cardiac arrest was not linked to the Covid-19 vaccination.
Soon after the actor's demises, Superstar Rajinikanth took to Twitter on Saturday to offer his condolences on the demise of actor Vivek. He wrote, “Jr Kalaivanar, social activist, and my close friend, Vivek. His demise has caused me a lot of pain. I can never forget the time I shared with him during the making of Sivaji. My deep condolences to his family. Let his soul rest in peace.”
Vivek was launched by legendary filmmaker K Balachander in the late 1980s. Vivekh, a Padma Shree recipient, has acted with top Tamil heroes including Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith Kumar. He has also appeared as the lead artiste in a couple of movies and has been involved in social causes including afforestation.
He went on to become one of the most sought-after comedy actors of Tamil cinema in the 1990s and retained a stronghold in the industry. The actor-comedian has performed in more than 220 films. He had received the Padma Shri in 2009. Vivek was last seen in Dharala Prabhu, which was the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Vicky Donor.
