Maharashtra to get 100MT oxygen supply from Reliance's plant, Gujarat

Mumbai, April 14: The state of Maharashtra is likely to get nearly 100 metric tonne of oxygen from Reliance Industries Jamnagar plant, Gujarat, urban development minister Eknath Shinde said on Wednesday. Shinde is said to have made the announcement following a review meeting at the Linde Plant in Taloja in navi Mumbai over the rising demand of oxygen in metropolitan region and neighboring Pune.

It may be recalled that the demand for oxygen is rising in the state following which the administration has also stepped up measures to avoid any crisis situation. "The rate of oxygen consumption in the state is increasing as mentioned by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray", Shinde said.

"We have now made some temperory arrangements wherein we will get 100 MT of oxygen from the Reliance plant in Gujarat", he added. Meanwhile, a parallel network of nitrogen supplying tankerswill also be pressed into service to ensure there is no logistics issue and all tankers will be provided adequate police protection and priority on roads will be accorded, Shinde said.

All district collectors have been asked to analyse demand and ensure adequate supply of oxygen based on their requirements. Directions were also issued to the administration to ensure private establishments that supply oxygen to hospitals should also look at capacity and storage augmentation in the coming days. In addition, all tankers used for carrying nitrogen will also be used for plying oxygen from the plants to the hospitals.
