New Delhi, April 13: Hardeep Suri-led civil aviation ministry ordered airlines not to serve food and beverage on domestic flights with a duration of fewer than two hours amid the second wave of the COVID-19. 

 

 

 

"The airlines, operating flights on domestic sectors may provide meals services onboard, wherein the flight duration is two hours or more, following the guidelines..." the amended provisions said. The ministry said it decided to review the on-board meal services in domestic flights due to "the increasing threat of COVID-19 and its variants".

 

 

 

However, the airlines may serve pre-packed snacks and meals where the flight duration is two hours and more. Airlines are permitted to serve only pre-packed snacks, meals, and pre-packed beverages on flights that have a duration of more than two hours. The servicing of in-flight meals must be staggered "among the adjacent seats as far as possible", it added.

 

 

 

 

It also ordered the airline to serve pre-packed meals and beverages using disposable plates, tray set-up, and cutlery or cleaned and disinfected rotables. “Crew shall wear a fresh set of gloves for every meal/beverage service... The servicing of inflight meals to be staggered among the adjacent seats as far as possible,” the provisions further said.

 

According to the statement, the provisions will come into force from 15 April.
