Centre opens two new Kendriya Vidyalayas in Karnataka and Punjab

New Delhi, Mar 5: The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has announced the opening of two new Kendriya Vidyalayas , one each in the state of Karnataka and Punjab. KV Sadalaga, Belagavi, Karnataka and KV IIT Ropar, Punjab will be the two new additions to the family of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). The new openings have resulted in the total number of KVs across the country to reach up to 1247.

Initially the two Vidyalayas are planned to function with classes I to V and thereafter grow consequentially upto class XII. According to the ministry's report, when the two Vidyalayas start functioning in full capacity, around 1000 students of the area will be benefited in each school. The Admission process in both the Vidyalayas will start in the academic session 2021-22. KV Sadalaga is a civil sector Vidyalaya which is planned to start functioning in the building provided by the State govt, until the new building is completely constructed.
 
 
KV IIT Ropar is to start functioning in its own building provided by the Institute. KV Sadalaga is in the Chikkodi Parliamentary constituency of Karnataka's Belgavi district while KV IIT Ropar is in Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary Constituency of Punjab's Roopnagar district. The ministry states that starting from 20 schools in the year of establishment of '1963', KVS has 1247 schools functioning presently. The number includes 3 KVs abroad in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran, with a total enrollment of students counting 13,93,668.

The primary objective of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan is to cater to the educational needs of the children of transferable Central Government employees including Defence and Para-Military personnel by providing a common programme of education. All Kendriya Vidyalayas are co-educational, composite schools, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education. The KVS aims to provide, establish, endow, maintain, control and manage schools, called the 'Kendriya Vidyalaya' not only for the children of transferable employees of the Govt of India, but also for the floating populations as well as others including those living in remote and undeveloped locations of the country.
