India's tech city bags 1st position in 'Ease of Living Index'

New Delhi, March 05:'Ease of Living Index', Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, Pune, Indore, Smart City, Municipal Performance Index,Million+, Smart Cities Programrged as the top performer in the Ease of Living Index 2020 in the `Million plus category.' 'The ranking was done based on 49 development indicators such as quality of life, economic-ability, sustainability & citizens’ perception of basic services.

Union Minister of State Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri announced the release of the final rankings of the Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020 and the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) 2020 in an online event on Thursday.
 
Following Bengaluru, Pune bags the second positions followed by Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Indore, and Greater Mumbai. In the 'less than a million category' Shimla was ranked the highest in ease of living, followed by Bhubaneshwar, Silvassa, Kakinada, Salem, Vellore, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Davangere, and Tiruchirappalli.
 
 
  
 
A total of 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise that was conducted in 2020. The rankings under Ease of Living Index 2020 were announced for cities with a population of more than a million, and cities with less than a million people. The analysis categorises them into Million+ populated cities and Less than Million populated cities along with all the cities under the Smart Cities Program.
 
This index is an assessment tool that evaluates the quality of life and impact of several initiatives for development in urban areas. The index provides for a comprehensive understanding of the participating cities based on the quality of life, economic abilities of the city, and sustainability & resilience. The assessment is done with the help of residents’ views with respect to the services provided by the city administration.
 
 
While, Madhya Pradesh's Indore has emerged as the highest-ranked municipality, in the "million-plus category" of the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) for the Ease of Living Index 2020 list. While, in the "Less than a Million" category the New Delhi Municipal Council has emerged as the leader, followed by Tirupati and Gandhinagar.
 
MPI was launched as an accompaniment to the Ease of Living Index. It seeks to examine local government practice in  omunicipalities across areasf services, finance, policy, technology, and governance.
