After huge success of Lucknow's Jaggery festival, UP govt now organizes Kalanamak Rice Festival

Lucknow, Mar 15: The Uttar Pradesh state govt has organized a three-day 'Kalanamak Rice Festival' in the Siddharth Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, starting from Mar 13, after a virtual inauguration. The festival is being organized after grand success of 'Strawberry Festival in Jhansi' and 'Jaggery Festival in Lucknow'. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has emphasized to promote the localized production.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has focused the initiative on providing the local producers of Kalanamak rice with a market to sell their produce, in a bid to create new income opportunities for the farmers. The rice festival event is being organized to promote, market and brand the selected products as One District One Product (ODOP) under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Local for Vocal’ campaign.
 
 
The Kala Namak Rice is grown in the eastern region of the state and is the 'One District One Product' of some of the Eastern UP districts. Thus, the festival had facilitated various dishes and delicacies made out of the Kala Namak rice for the visitors to taste. The visitors can purchase Kala Namak paddy seeds and rice from the stalls. During the festival, the visitors will get to know the historical, nutritional and scientific merits and information regarding the cultivation of Kala Namak Rice.

The festival also presented colorful cultural programs in which local artists and students showcased their talent. The program also provided progressive farmers, FPOs and self-help groups with information, with respect to the cultivation and processing of the product. The Kalanamak rice is a geographical indication (GI) tagged rice from Siddharth Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. It is grown in Siddhartha nagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur, and Shravasti districts of Uttar Pradesh as ODOP.
