Nandigram, March 13: The bhumipputra, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday registered himself as a voter of Nandigram in East Midnapore and received a new Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC). Before filing his nomination, Suvendu changed his voting address from Haldia constituency to Nandigram and now he would be voting from Nandanayakbar Primary School. His new voter ID card was issued on March 6, 2021, which was handed over to him today.

TMC's Mamata Banerjee (the fractured leg) is a voter from Bhawanipur constituency in South Kolkata, while CPI (M) candidate Meenakshi Mukherjee is also not a voter from Nandigram. “I had applied for a new voter ID card as I wanted to exercise my voting right from Nandigram. I am a ‘bhoomiputra’ and people will certainly extend their support to BJP in this election,” Suvendu said.

“I always stood with the people of Nandigram throughout the year but Mamata Banerjee remembers Nandigram only during elections. I believe people of Nandigram will give a befitting reply to TMC,” he added. Suvendu, a former aide of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, also filed his nomination from the Nandigram assembly constituency. He said, “I would like to invite you all on May 2 to have sweets as BJP is winning this election.”

“I don’t believe in individual person and individual seats. Who am I? I am one of the workers like many. I am working for the BJP as a whole. BJP is winning the Assembly polls,” he responded on being asked how confident he was from winning the Nandigram seat. He, however, refused to comment anything on the Nandigram incident where Mamata Banerjee was ‘heckled’ and received multiple injuries.

On the other hand, TMC would be releasing its manifesto on March 14 (which symbolises the sacrifice of farmers during Nandigram movement). On March 14, 2007, 14 villagers were killed in a police firing in Nandigram firing and since then the day is being celebrated as ‘Shahid Diwas’.
