Toronto, March 11: Expressing their gratitude in a different way, Canada has put huge billboards with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Toronto to thank PM Modi and India for providing Chinese coronavirus vaccines. The billboards thanking PM Modi and India were put up by Hindu Forum Canada.
The billboard read, "Thank You India and PM Narendra Modi for providing COVID vaccines to Canada. Long Live Canada-India Friendship." The billboard also mentions the Hindu Forum, Canada.
Earlier, the Indian diaspora in Canada had also organised a massive ‘Tiranga and Maple car rally’ to celebrate the growing ties of Canada and India. . The three-hour-long car rally featuring flags from both countries witnessed the participation of 22 Indo-Canadian organisations.
Last week, India had sent 500,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine to Canada under the Vaccine Maitri Initiative. This came after Candian PM Justin Trudeau dialed India for the supply of the vaccine. The consignment was received by Canadian partner Verity Pharmaceuticals.
The Canadian Prime Minister has also appreciated India by saying that if the world managed to conquer COVID-19, "it would be significant because of India's tremendous pharmaceutical capacity, and Prime Minister Modi's leadership in sharing this capacity with the world".
Apart from Canada, WHO, the US, IMF have also lauded India's vaccine outreach. Microsoft founder Bill Gates had also lauded the Indian efforts and said that it was great to see India’s leadership in scientific innovation and vaccine manufacturing capability in the global fight against COVID-19.
