PM Modi, President Biden agrees to stand together against scourge of global terrorism

New Delhi, February 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to stand together against the scourge of global terrorism during the telephonic conversation with the new US President Joe Biden. PM Modi also conveys his best wishes as the American leader pans out an ambitious agenda strengthening relations with the world during his first 100 days in office.

In a tweet, PM Modi said "conveyed my best wishes for his success" and, " We discussed regional issues and our shared priorities", with a focus on "co-operation against climate change".
 
 
The leaders also agreed to work together on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, renew the partnership on climate change, rebuild the global economy in a way that benefits the people of both countries. In another tweet, he said, both sides are "committed to a rules-based international order" and are "looking forward to consolidating our strategic partnership" to "further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond."
 
PM Modi also welcomed US President Joe Biden's decision to recommit to the Paris Agreement and highlighted the ambitious targets India has set for itself in the area of renewable energy. During the call, Biden underscored his desire to defend democratic institutions and norms around the world and noted that a shared commitment to democratic values is the bedrock for the US-India relationship.
 
"They further resolved that the rule of law and the democratic process must be upheld in Burma. The leaders agreed to stay in close touch on a range of global challenges and look forward to what the United States and India will achieve together for their people and their nations,” the White House said.
 
Apart from it, the prime minister welcomed President Biden's initiative to organise the Climate Leaders Summit in April this year and looked forward to participating in the same, according to the statement. The prime minister also invited President Biden and Jill Biden to visit India at their earliest convenience.
