Patna, Feb 9: The Nitish Kumar govt inducted 17 ministers in Bihar state Cabinet on Feb 9 . Among the new Cabinet ministers, nine ministers are from BJP quota while eight belong to alliance partner JD(U). With the new ministers, the total number of ministers in the state Cabinet has reached 30, with six more berths remaining vacant.
Governor Phagu Chauhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to new ministers at Rajbhawan in Patna. Senior BJP leader and party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain was included in the cabinet. Sumit Singh, an independent candidate was also included in state cabinet. Lesi Singh of JD(U) became member of Nitish Kumar's cabinet. Janak Ram of BJP who also became minister, is certainly not a member of any house.
Apart from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, others gracing the occasion included Deputy CMs Tar Kishore Prasad and Renu Devi, Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, the state legislative council chairman Avadhesh Narayan Singh, and MP Rajya Sabha Sushil Kumar Modi. The Leader of Opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav could not make it as he is reportedly in Delhi.
BJP has retained only two ministers for this term from the last Cabinet; Mangal Pandey and Pramod Kumar, while JD(U) has retained several old guards. Leaders like Prem Kumar and Nand Kishore Yadav who were part of all previous NDA governments, have not found a place this time, while Sushil Kumar Modi has been sent to the Rajya Sabha.
