As dates of Assembly Election in 4 States & 1 Union Territory have been declared by the Election Commission, political standpoint of Congress is appearing confusing. The Grand Old Party is fighting against LEFTs in Kerala while they’re in Alliance with them in West Bengal. Congress politics, thus, has captured attention of all. In my opinion, there’s no confusion regarding the standpoint of Congress as the grand old party had consistently indulged in politics of manipulation. Communists appear to be identity extension of Congress Party & the two hardly differ in ideology though they often fought tooth n nail against each other. In 1947, both Congress & Communists stood in support of Muslim League’s demand of Pakistan & didn’t oppose each other regarding such an ideological issue of partitioning the motherland. However, after Partition, they became rabid opponents & started confronting each other for political convenience so that any other real antagonist couldn’t rise up. Congress & Communists blocked both the slots of power-incumbent & opposition for mutual benefit. After fighting tooth n nail against each other for more than 60 years in West Bengal, LEFT & Congress had formed Election Alliance first time in 2016—offering comedy material to the people of West Bengal.
“Bam ban gaye Zandu Balm” was in vogue. After LEFT-Congress alliance was formed in 2016, people of West Bengal realized no ideological conflict ever existed between the two parties & their contending each other was just political window-dressing in order to befool people. As a result, LEFT vote share in WB reduced even further after this Alliance in 2016. Congress slightly gained as people of WB never had much of expectations from Congress since 1972, except in a few pockets. Therefore, by aligning with LEFTs, Congress may gain in West Bengal, but LEFTs would sink even further. In 2019 Loksabha Election, LEFTs received 7% of casted votes. If everything goes as of now, LEFTs’ vote share is destined for a further shrinkage. LEFT-Congress Alliance is a natural alliance under the veil of an alliance of convenience. While they want people to understand their Alliance to be based on Election Arithmetic, it’s a natural alliance in reality. Communists are ideological partners of Congress Party with a revolutionary front-office image to cater to a bigger pie of people. If Congress gains in a place, LEFTs would automatically make way over there & vice versa. Look at Kerala. The two Parties manifestly appear to be in some kind of deal of predictable alteration of positions every 5 years.
That is perhaps the reason why LEFT-Congress Alliance of West Bengal are still standing in support of today’s Muslim League aka Indian Secular Front led by Abbas Siddiqui. As it happened in 1947, Congress & LEFTs have again agreed to get along with Islamists. No ideological barrier exists. CPM was known not to believe in the existence of God or any supernatural power. But they get along with Muslim Clerics, the worshippers of Allah. While Uncle Twaha Siddiqui has coupled with TMC, nephew Abbas has tied up with Congress-LEFT Alliance. The two hands of Furfura Sharif has thus tried to have a comprehensive grip over the whole so called secular Ecosystem of West Bengal. Congress, CPM & TMC are, hence, very much in coherence, though TMC & Congress-LEFT Alliance appear to antagonize each other.
Why couldn’t Congress-LEFT Alliance move without ‘Muslim crutches’ in West Bengal? This is because a sizeable share of their votes came from Muslims which might shift this year to Abbas Siddiqui’s Indian Secular Front. They couldn’t afford to stand in conflict against ISF but including it into their own portfolio became existential compulsion for both Congress & CPM. This implies—not only TMC, Congress & CPM too were winning predominantly Muslim-dominated constituencies which they might not be able to crack this year because of Abbas Siddiqui. Lion’s share of their votes comprise Muslim votes. Why’s Muslim Vote so huge in number in West Bengal? Allegedly because of illegal infiltrators who vote recklessly all over West Bengal with false identity documents. It’s an ugly open secret of Bengal.
Some people including TMC believe formation of Indian Secular Front with AIMIM’s support is a BJP-ploy to divide Muslim Votes of West Bengal. Such conjecture appeared sustainable as division of Muslim Votes was sure to weaken Mamata Banerjee’s vote bank. However, after Congress-LEFT Alliance declared official tie-up with ISF, the game became even more enthralling & intriguing. Isn’t a huge post-poll coalition faintly visible on the horizon depending on Election results? If no single party gets clear majority, a coalition of TMC + Congress + CPM + The Complete Muslim Lobby including ISF & Twaha-loyals appears probable. That’s a danger hovering over the horizon of West Bengal. Nothing perhaps can be worse than being under the clutch of such a coalition. Antecedents suggest. Non-Muslims of West Bengal would decide the fate of the State.
