S Jaishankar says terrorism violates most fundamental human right - 'Right to Life'

New Delhi, February 24: Pointing out that terrorism will be a threat to humankind, India said that even being a long-standing victim, India is at the forefront of the global action against terrorism. While addressing at High-Level Segment of the 46th Session of UN Human Rights Council, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar's human rights agenda continues to face severe challenges, most of all from terrorism.

Highlighting that how terrorism is a crime against humanity' he said, that terrorism violates the most fundamental human right - namely ‘the Right to Life’. "There is a need for us to come together to overcome these challenges. At the same time, multilateral institutions and mechanisms need to be reformed to be able to deal with these effectively. Terrorism continues to be one of the gravest threats to humankind,” he added.
 
Talking about India's active role in global promotion and protection of human rights Jaishankar said, India has a strong commitment towards the welfare of entire humanity. Taking the inspiration by our civilisational ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam’, India has provided the very foundation on which that constitutional and legal framework of human rights has been built.
 
"Our Constitution has enshrined basic human rights as fundamental rights, guaranteeing civil and political rights, stipulating provisions for the progressive realisation of economic, social & cultural rights,” he said.
