PM KISAN Yojana completes two years with an assistance of Rs 1.10 Cr to farmers

New Delhi, Feb 24: The PM KISAN scheme that was launched with an aim to ensure a life of dignity and prosperity for farmers has completed two years of implementation, on Feb 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said through a series of tweets that, "On this day, 2 years ago the PM KISAN scheme was launched with an aim to ensure a life of dignity as well as prosperity for our hardworking farmers, who work day and night to keep our nation fed. The tenacity and passion of our farmers is inspiring."

The Prime Minister further adds, "Over the last 7 years, the Govt of India has taken many initiatives for transforming agriculture. From better irrigation to more technology, more credit and markets to proper crop insurance, focus on soil health to eliminate middlemen, the efforts are all-encompassing. The Union Govt had the honor of ushering a historic increase in MSP. We are doing everything possible to double the income of farmers."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formally launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi ( PM KISAN ) scheme, on Feb 24, 2019 at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The scheme was launched with the objective of PM Modi of augmenting the income of the farmers by giving all the landholding farmer’s family an income support, all across the country. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 6000 per year is transferred to the bank accounts of farmers directly. This amount is transferred to them in three installments of Rs 2000.

The scheme was initially launched to provide income support to all Small and Marginal Farmers’ families who are holding the cultivable land up to 2 hectares. Later, the scheme was expanded to cover all farmers’ families irrespective of the size of their land holdings. However, affluent farmers have been excluded from the scheme. More than Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand crore rupees have been transferred to the farmers’ income, till date. The PM KISAN scheme was announced by Piyush Goyal during the Interim Union Budget of 2019 and was formally announced on Feb 24, 2019. It has cost ₹75,000 crore per annum and was brought into effect from Dec 2019.
