The newly constructed stadium is named after PM Narendra Modi as Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. President also laid the foundation stone of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave at the newly-built Cricket Stadium.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present on the occasion. He was the guest of honour during the inauguration ceremony of the world’s largest cricket stadium.

Spread over 63 acres, the Motera stadium has been billed to be the world’s largest cricket stadium with a seating capacity of a whopping 1,10,000. It houses 76 corporate boxes, an Olympic-level swimming pool, an indoor academy, four dressing rooms for athletes, and food courts.

Due to the COVID-19 guidelines of the government, only 50 per cent of the full capacity of spectators will be allowed in the stadium. It means that over 50,000 people are expected to grace the Motera. On Friday, Sports Minister Kire Rijiju and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had also visited the stadium and witnessed its beautiful Hall of Fame zone. It has pictures of Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, CK Nayudu, Lala Amarnath, Vinoo Mankad, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly among those highlighted.

The four-match series between India and England currently stands level at 1-1 and now both teams will lock horns in a pink-ball Test, beginning Wednesday at the Motera Stadium. If India win the ongoing series by at least a margin of 2-1, then the side will qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship.
