'Pishi Jao': A jibe at Mamata Didi in 'Bella Ciao' style

Kolkata, Feb 22: Preparations for the West Bengal Assembly elections are in full swing. A war of words has broken out between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) With the campaigns from both ruling and opposition parties heating up, BJP has released a new campaign ad titled 'Pishi Jao' which is the recreated version of the famous "Bella Ciao" song that recently gained popularity again after it was featured in the hit Netflix series "Money Heist".
The video comes after TMC launched its slogan for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal - 'Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye' (Bengal wants its own daughter), To take a jibe at the CM Mamata Banerjee, the BJP came up with its own slogan saying, "Bengal wants freedom from Didi". through an animated video called "Pishi Jaao" (Aunty, leave).
'Pishi' is included as she happens to be the aunt of Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, a leader who has been accused of corruption by his opponents. The BJP, in its YouTube description stated, "A tune from Communist Italy, sung to protest against atrocities, echoes once again in West Bengal as people stand up to the injustices of the ruling dispensation. Our ideologies may differ, but the language of protest always rings true."
The tenure of the TMC government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal will come to an end on May 30, 2020. The upcoming elections in the state are slated to take place soon for 294 Assembly seats.
Both the BJP and ruling Trinamool Congress, headed by CM Banerjee, are spearheading an intense election campaign in West Bengal. Home Minister Amit Shah also visited the state ahead of the elections for campaigning. It should be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the state today.
