Indian Air Force ( IAF ) arrived at Dhaka on Monday on the invitation of
Bangladesh Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat for a three-day visit which will strengthen the close and fraternal ties between the Armed Forces of the two countries.
"The IAF Chief is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Air Force and Army Chiefs of Bangladesh and other senior officials of the country. He is also scheduled to interact with senior dignitaries & visit major operational bases of BAF. Both sides will discuss shared interests & explore avenues to further mutual defense cooperation," the Ministry of Defence stated.
The visit of the IAF chief to Bangladesh comes at a time for both Bangladesh and Indian Armed Forces as the two celebrate 50 years of the 1971 war. "It will enhance the existing professional ties and bonds of friendship between the two Air Forces," it added.
The IAF Chief would also be paying tribute to the members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War of 1971, by laying wreaths at the altar of Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.The Indian delegation would also pay their homage to the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by visiting Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi.
It is expected that India's indigenous fighter Jet HAL Tejas will also be presented to the Bangladesh Air force as BAF is in dire need of upgrading its fighter fleet & Tejas meets all the operational requirements of BAF.
