New York, February 11: Targeting Pakistan for terrorism, India again highlighted
Pakistan's link with terror groups like Al Qaeda, the Islamic State (ISIL) that perpetrate terror attacks from "safe haven" in Pakistan. India in
UNSC pointed out that, "the global community must not lose sight of the ease with which the Haqqani Network and its supporters, 'especially the Pakistani authorities', have worked along with
terror groups in South Asia."
While
brifing India’s UN envoy
TS Tirumurti said, “It is essential that we not lose sight of the ease with which the network bans Haqqani and his supporters, especially the Pakistani authorities, have worked with prominent terrorists organizations like Al-Qaida, ISIL K, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, etc. in South Asia. “
TS Tirumurt's remark has come during the
UNSC briefing on ‘Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts’. The act is considered as the 12th report of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the threat posed by ISIL (Da'esh) to international peace and security.
The report suggested that ISIS in Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan (ISIL-K) is currently assessed to have between 1,000 and 2,200 fighters in
Afghanistan spread across several provinces and is expected to continue to target Kabul and provincial capitals in future attacks.
Pointing out that
Pakistan is providing 'Safe Havens' to this terrorist group he said, "The world is fully aware that these groups also perpetrate terrorist activities from safe havens in Pakistan, including through violent attacks in Afghanistan that have disrupted the peace process."
Talking about the UNSG's report on ISIL, Murti said," The report should cover activities" of the proscribed terrorist entities under UN's ISIL and Al Qaida Sanctions regimes like
Lashkar-e-Taiba and other Pakistan based terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad and frontal organizations.
Pointing out the relocation of terror groups to Afghanistan especially in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces from across the Durand Line Trimuriti said, "To not name them in this report is doing a disservice as it gives only a partial and a biased view of the situation in the region."
