New Delhi, December 6: As a major shock to the Punjab Congress, party spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal, resigned on Monday. He held positions of national coordinator, in charge of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh Kisan Congress and senior media panellist within the party.
In his resignation letter to party president, Sonia Gandhi, he said that leadership of the state wing of the Congress had been put in the wrong hands. Pritpal Singh Baliawal wrote, referring to the Punjab Congress president, Navjot Singh Sidhu, “As a spokesperson, it has become very hard to defend the nonsense and anti-party anti-government remarks along with his ties to Pakistan.”
Pritpal Singh Baliawal’s letter also offers support to former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh. He said, “We were in strong capacity to form the government in 2022 under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh and Sunil Kumar Jakhar but you decided to choose Mr Sidhu.”
He further added, “Although Mr Charanjit Channi is doing a good job, but daily tweets by him [Sidhu] are shrinking the party's image.”

Baliawal said he was also hurt when the Congress party gave an important role to 1984 riots-accused Jagdish Tytler. “For 15 years, I honoured the responsibilities given to me by the party... I have decided to resign from all the responsibilities” concluded Baliawal in his letter.
