New Delhi, Dec 21: In what can be said as betraying a 'friend', Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar might have set the same example and ditched his JNU friend Umar Khalid. This came after a video is going viral on social media about Umar Khalid and Kanhaiya Kumar.

In the video, Kanhaiya was questioned about his friendship with Umar Khalid, his long-time JNU friend. Responding to this, the Congress leader said, "Who said he is my friend?". He was addressing the media reporters after an event held in Siwan. Social media found it strange as Khalid and Kumar were friends for a long time since the time they were in JNU. After such a response from Kumar, netizens started to troll Kanhaiya Kumar. "Did they ask that after joining Congress, have these pictures been forgotten?"

Responding to this video, the likes of Umar Khalid has come forward to defend him and troll Kumar. They have also said a lesson is learned for Muslims and it is a wake-up call for Indian Muslims who should stop looking for “saviors” & “heroes” outside the community.

Irena Akbar, a staunch supporter f Umar Khalid, took to Twitter saying that Kanhaiya Kumar was a backstabber who betrayed Umar Khalid. “A friend who abandons you in your tough times is no less than a backstabber. He’s worse than an upfront enemy. Kanhaiya Kumar, the selfish, opportunistic coward didn’t deserve Umar Khalid’s friendship. Good riddance for Umar. And a lesson learnt for Muslims. We are in this alone,” she said.

Notably, When Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested in 2016 in JNU, Sharjeel Imam had organised a protest for him while Umar Khalid was campaigning for Kahnaiya in Begusarai and now Kanhaiya does not even remember his friend Umar Khalid.

Interestingly, questions were also raised when Umar Khalid was arrested in connection with the Delhi riots. Several had rallied in support while others have questioned Khalid’s actions. Strangely, Kumar's silence seemed suspicious. People were are asking during that time where is Kanhaiya Kumar and why is he silent? Khalid’s former JNU comrade-in-arms and one who went to Tihar jail earlier with him belatedly posted about the arrest on Facebook, but even that did not quell these questions.

Reports had also suggested that people of Kanhaiya Kumars are not seen standing next to the Umar Khalid's. This action has already sent a message out there that there must be something ‘right’ about the Delhi riots investigation — there must be something right about the Delhi Police or what the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says.

Such silences and statements made by Kumar about his friend Khalid set a veiled narrative that everyone wants to know. Moreover, these narratives can be stated as more than a conspiracy.
