New Delhi, Dec 2: In order to boost tourism in the state, the Meghalaya government has announced the Umngot River Festival will be held on 3rd December 2021. Notably, the Umngot River is the cleanest river in India.
The Arts and Culture Department, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Office of the SDO Amlarem (Civil) Amlarem Sub Division and Seng Samla Shnongpdeng Cultural and Sports Club will organize the first of its kind ‘Umngot River festival’ – cleanest river in India, on December 3.
Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya has invited people to witness the beauty of the region. "The crystal clear waters of Wah Umngot in all its glory! The Umngot River Festival will be held on 3rd December 2021. We invite you to visit Shnongpdeng & witness this beauty!" the CM tweeted.
The one-day festival will be held at Umngot River in Shnongpdeng village in West Jaintia Hills District. The objective of the festival is to promote tourism and water sports activities. The festival includes Boat Tableau Competition, boating, water polo, Zip Lining etc.
