Two Bangladeshi smugglers killed in BSF firing near India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal

New Delhi, November 12: In major development, the Border Security Force (BSF) shot down two Bangladeshi smugglers near the Indo-Bangladesh border at Site locality in the Cooch Bihar district of West Bengal in the early morning of November 12. The incident took place at 3 AM.

 

 

According to a statement issued by the BSF, the BSF team spotted some Bangladeshi smugglers trying to smuggle cattle by lifting them over the barbed wire fence using improvised cantilevers. The smugglers entered Indian territory by using ladders out of iron bars to cross the fence. Further, when the BSF warned them to go back, they did not pay any heed and instead attacked the BSF troops with iron swords and sticks.

 

In self-defense, the BSF had to open fire on the miscreants and kill both of them. During which one BSF personnel suffered injuries in the attack, and he was rushed to the hospital.

 

 

 

"Around 3 am on Friday miscreants from the Bangladesh side ventured into Indian territory and tried to smuggle in cattle by setting up improvised bamboo cantilever. Initially, BSF warned them but the latter did not pay any heed. When BSF used non-lethal weapons, the smugglers attacked the BSF troop with sharp weapons and sticks. Sensing an imminent threat to life, BSF opened fire," the BSF said in a statement.

 

The Border Security Force, which is deployed to guard the 4,096 km long Indo-Bangladesh border, has made several attempts to restrict illegal smuggling and entry into the country.
