Missamari (Assam), Oct 18: The Indian Army operated a Heron Mark-1 unmanned aerial vehicle at an aviation squadron in Missamari, Assam on October 17. The drones are deployed for surveillance along the China border in the sector.
"Heron Mark-I Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) can climb up to 30,000 ft & continue to give feed to commander on the ground. So that we can manoeuver forces on the ground. It has an endurance of 24-30 hrs in a stretch," Major Karthik Garg said at the Indian Army's aviation base in Assam's Missamari.
Further, Major Karthik Garg added, "We have day and night camera and for bad weather we have synthetic-aperture radar which can give track of entire terrain."
Heron Mark-1 aerial vehicle is primarily designed to perform strategic reconnaissance and surveillance operations. It also provides its operators with real-time information on enemy battlefields by performing surveillance and target acquisition over large areas.
The Heron UAV is configured for multiple operations, even under adverse weather conditions. It uses multiple sensors and satellite communication (SATCOM) for extended-range data capture and transfer. Its features include state-of-the-art avionics, retractable landing gear, along with automatic take-off and landing systems.

Besides, Indian Armed Forces have strengthened their security along China border amid the India-China border standoff. As reported earlier, the Indian Army and China's People Liberation Day were engaged in a face-off along the Line of Actual Control in the Arunachal Pradesh sector as the patrols of two countries came face to face at one location.
