India accepts Russia’s invite, to participate in Afghanistan talks in Moscow,

This will be the second time when Indian representatives will come face-to-face with members of the terrorist group since the Taliban marched into Kabul on August 15.

New Delhi, October 15: In the major development, the Ministry of External Affairs during the daily press briefing informed that India will participate in the Moscow Format Meeting on Afghanistan on 20th October. This will be the first Moscow format dialogue since the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban in August.

Responding to the question about the meeting, external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “We have received an invitation for the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan on October 20. We will be participating in it."
 
 There is no confirmation on who will attend the meeting but India is likely to be represented by a joint secretary from the external affairs ministry, he said.
 
 
 
Russia has been organising the Moscow Format since 2017 to discuss matters related to Afghanistan. This year Moscow format meeting scheduled on October 20 is likely to witness the participation of representatives from other countries such as Iran, Pakistan, and China too and will deliberate on the situation in Afghanistan.
 
This will be the second time when Indian representatives will come face-to-face with members of the terrorist group since the Taliban marched into Kabul on August 15 after the collapse of the Ashraf Ghani government.
 
 
Earlier on August 31, India's Ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal and the Taliban Political Office head Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai held a meeting at Doha. Russia has been organising the Moscow Format since 2017 to discuss matters related to Afghanistan.
