Gesture appreciated! Muslims arrange Durga Puja for deprived Hindus in Kolkata

In a gesture to appreciate, the Muslims at Allimuddin St in Kolkata united to revive Durga Puja for handful of Hindu families in their neighbourhood. This is after the Hindu families got scattered, children left, aged parents alone behind during the West Bengal post poll violence. Muslims went and got the idol, organising the puja, arranged a pandit too.

 

 

"We feel happy to see happiness on the faces of Hindu people here who have waited long for this festival but cannot celebrate it today. We all Muslim brothers have come together and are trying to spread joy amongst the Hindu community", said Shakeel Rafique talking to one of the media persons.

 

 

 

 

Durga Puja is particularly popular and traditionally celebrated in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Odisha and Tripura, the Mithilanchal region of Bihar, and the country of Bangladesh. As per Hindu scriptures, the festival marks the victory of goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-shifting asura, Mahishasura. Thus, the festival epitomizes the victory of good over evil, though it is also in part a harvest festival celebrating the goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and creation.

 

 

West Bengal was hit by violence after assembly election results were announced on May 2, 2021. It was alleged that Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress supporters indulged in violence against BJP workers at several locations in the state. Under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the state then witnessed several political violence.

 

However, things got worse when there were many cases of murder, molestation and harrassment in post-poll results. Ever since the Mamata Banerjee-led retained power in the state, the persecution of dissenters and opposition workers has only intensified. The TMC goons wreaked havoc, attacking and plundering the houses of their opponents.
