'Idol worshiping against the Christian values', COVID authority of Papua New Guinea denies Durga Puja event

The festival that holds great significance for the Hindu devotees, as they pray to the different avatars of goddess Durga each day during the nine-day celebration having no respect on the international platforms is a cause of pain for Hindus residing out there.

Demeaning the Hindu culture and the celebrations, the 'COVID controlling authority' of Papua New Guinea has ruled out the celebrations of Navratri, the Hindu religious ceremony. While this has nothing to do with controlling COVID, the authority blatantly believes that this form of idol worshipping is morally inappropriate and against the Christian values. "As such APPROVAL IS NOT GRANTED to host this event", the letter noted.

Ben Packham, Foreign affairs and defence correspondent to Australia happened to share the official letter by David Manning to the President of Port Moresby Durga Puja Committee, Puspendu Maity denying the permission to host spiritual and religious activity of Nav Durga Puja on October 12 and 17.

In recent times, there have been many incidents of supressing the Hindu voices globally. While the other international platforms in the Canada and Texas have declared the month of October as the Hindu Heritage Month, the decision by David Manning later issued an apology for his grave and unfortunate mistake. Manning, who signed original the letter said he was not the author and he respects religious freedoms. "I humbly seek your forgiveness for this unfortunate matter," he noted.
