New York, January 07: Taking action against US President Donald Trump, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram blocked US POTUS accounts after his supporters stormed the US Capitol building. Both the companies have blocked his account respectively, citing policy violations over his tweets and video message that purportedly incited violence.

Both companies locked Trump’s accounts and removed several posts from the president's account. Earlier on Wednesday, Twitter blocked several of Trump’s posts from being shared, citing a “risk of violence”.

Twitter also threatened to permanently suspend Trump from the platform if he violated its rules again."As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three President Trump's tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy," Twitter said.

It added, "Our public interest policy — which has guided our enforcement activity in this area for years — ends where we believe the risk of harm is higher and/or more severe."

While Facebook has suspended Trump from posting to his account for 24 hours. “This is an emergency and we are taking appropriate emergency measures, including removing President Trump’s video,” said Guy Rosen, Facebook’s vice-president of integrity, in a tweet. He added, "We removed it because on balance we believe it contributes to, rather than diminishes, the risk of ongoing violence.”

Facebook has also increased rules for content moderation in private Facebook groups, where extremism experts have long warned many such militarized actions are planned. Apart from Facebook and Twitter Google’s YouTube also took action and removed the same video from its website. This comes after Pro republican supporters stormed the US Capitol building on Wednesday and violently clashed with police.
Twitter in the past has flagged several Trump tweets sharing misinformation or calling for violence.
