Amit Shah's visit to West Bengal cancelled amid escalating farmers' protest in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah 's visit to West Bengal has been cancelled. He was scheduled to arrive in Kolkata last night. In a statement, BJP state unit said that due to unavoidable circumstances Shah 's all scheduled programmes for today has been cancelled.

Shah was scheduled to address two rallies and participate in a series of programmes over this weekend during his two-day visit to the state. Though there were no specific reasons why the visit was cancelled, it comes at a time when farmers have intensified their protests against three farm laws amid incidents of clashes with "locals" at some places.
 
Shah was to attend several programmes as the BJP steps up its campaign in the state where assembly elections are expected to be held in April-May.
 
He was scheduled to start his state tour from Mayapur Chandrodaya Temple of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), and later address the Matua community at a public rally at the Thakurbari ground in North 24 Parganas district, as per BJP officials.
 
On the second day of his visit on January 31, the home minister was scheduled to visit Sri Aurobindo Bhawan in Kolkata and then the Bharat Sevashram Sangha. He was also scheduled to address a public meeting at Dumurjola in Howrah and visit Belur Math.
