Though it will be a behind-the-closed-doors event, there will not be any shortage of entertainment as both the teams have always been involved in fascinating contests. No one can argue about the fact there has been no other bigger rivalry in the IPL than the one between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The two franchises had locked horns in the IPL 2019 final and it will be nothing but thrilling when they face other in the IPL 2020 opener here.

Both the teams, collectively, have lifted the trophies seven titles out of the 12 seasons played so far. In the games played between these teams, the four-time champions Mumbai Indians lead by 17-11. They have played each other 28 times more than any other team and have been up against four times in the finals. They are led by the two ace Indian cricketers - MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

Statistics

Statistics say that CSK has played in the finals eights time out of which three times were against MI. However, when Dhoni as a captain including Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 has played nine times in the finals, he has lost two finals by one run against MI. Recently, MI has earned 5 straight wins against CSK.

There has been chaos in the CSK camp after players testing positive for COVID-19 and the departure of stars Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh whereas MI looks more confident with its team. However, things can turn upside down in IPL at any time.
