Arya Vaidya Pharmacy MD PR Krishnakumar passes away due to COVID-19; PM Modi condoles

Chennai, 17 September: Prominent Ayurveda physician and Managing Director of the iconic Coimbatore Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Dr, PR Krishnakumar who had devoted his entire life to creating awareness on Ayurveda, breathed his last in Coimbatore at the age of 69.

He died due to sepsis with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and COVID-19. Earlier, he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Coimbatore for over a week. Earlier, he had a knee amputation surgery due to a diabetic foot ulcer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of prominent Ayurveda physician PR Krishnakumar. In a tweet, PM Modi said that Krishnakumar's persistent, enterprising and mission-mode activities have contributed to the global popularity of Ayurveda.
 
 
Krishnakumar hailed from a Kerala Warrier family of hereditary ayurvedic physicians. His father Dr. PV Rama Warier had founded the Coimbatore Arya Vaidya a non-profit research organization promoting research in the Indian medicine system of AyurvedaPharmacy.Krishna Kumar took charge of AVP in 1994 after his father’s demise. He served as Coimbatore Ayurvedic Trust managing trustee, executive chairman of Arya Vaidyan Rama Varier Educational Foundation for Ayurveda.
 
He conceived and implemented a unique 7 ½ year educational program for Ayurveda totally free, affiliated to Madras University and later to Bharathiar University and also approved by the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCCIM), which created a unique breed of Ayurveda scholars. He had also been the recipient of the National Ayurveda Award instituted by the Government of India. He was Chancellor of the renowned Avinashilingam University in Coimbatore. He also founded the DIVYAM Academy as a center for holistic value-based education for children
 
He was a man whose foresight and pioneering efforts to introduce the science of Ayurveda to the modern world brought recognition to the Science & wellbeing to millions. He is responsible for bringing d attention of many young minds towards Ayurveda. He is also known to have contributed to conceptualizing and implementing the preparation of ayurvedic medicines in tablet form and has also conducted several free medical camps for the poor in rural areas. He was honored with Padma Shri in 2009 by the Government of India for his contributions to Ayurveda.
