The US faces Chinese Domination Threat

In 2012 the Hollywood made a film called ‘Red Dawn’. The original film has the invading army of China but the MGM studio made digital changes and showed this as the North Korean Army. These changes were made following criticism by the Global Times newspaper owned by the Chinese government. The similar movie ‘The Martian’ was brought in 2015. The hero of that movie was the only one to survive the blast on Mars. It was shown that he was saved by the Chinese space organization.

 

Pop Music and Hollywood are too powerful carriers of American culture worldwide. They have the proverbial ‘lion’s share’ in the spread of the American culture globally. But, in recent years, China has taken lead in selling Hollywood movie tickets and raising capital for the production of these movies. This has led to increasing incidents of changes in scriptwriting and presentation to paint a better picture of China. The two examples mentioned above are indicative of this. This is seen as the Chinese attack at the vulnerable point of the US on the strength of its economic prowess.

 

 

 

One incident that came to the fore in the last month explains this danger more explicitly. The founder of Chinese major Alibaba, Jack Ma is one of the richest in China and the world. But he is me, member of the ruling Chinese, Communist party. The Chinese ‘People’s Daily’ had exposed Jack Ma’s links with Chinese Communist Party. Jack Ma is not the first rich capitalist to join the Chinese Communist party. Construction businessman Shu Jiayin and founder of Wanda Group Wang Jianlin is also among the billionaire members of the Communist party. But Jack Ma’s membership was not known until People’s Daily exposed it. Jack Ma is not only a member of the Communist Party but also played an important role in Xi Jinping’s OBOR project.

 

Last year at World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting held at Davos in Switzerland Wang Jianling warned US President Donald Trump on bringing the entertainment industry in the possible business war between the US and China. In the eventuality of such a business war, the US will suffer most, Wang had said. Many US Senators had demanded then to examine the growing Chinese investment in Hollywood as it posed a threat to national security, they felt. Jianlin’s Wanda Group owns a theater chain in the US, Hollywood production company and the company that organizes ‘Golden Globe Award’. They have also bought Legendary Entertainment Company that produced three films in the ‘Batman’ series which made world records in earning. They have also shown interest in buying six more big Hollywood companies.

 

China is trying to secretly influence the US at a time when the US President has launched a business war with that country. The American experts have warned about this. China has launched extensive efforts to supply finances to dominate US politics and society, the latest report in this regard said. This report is titled as ‘Chinese Influence and American Interests’ and it is prepared by experts of Hoover Institution of Stanford University and Centre on US-China Relations in Asia Society.

 

Larry Diamond and Orville Shell have written this report. These efforts were started soon after Xi Jinping came to power in 2012 as General Secretary of Chinese Communist party, the report said. China is interested in creating its domination in the world and shows to the world that their economic development model is more competent than the liberal democracies of the world, the report states. For this, China is using the openness of The US than any other country and on the other hand, it is trying to arrest American efforts to seek a presence in Chinese society. Former US ambassador to China Winston Lord has helped in preparing this report. “This report gives the latest position on US-China relations, I feel. It also has the imprint of ominous things in the US-China relations”, he said while talking to Voice of America, recently.

 

The examples given to arrive at these inferences are most important. China wants to influence US politicians and members of the US Congress. To resolve issues related to the US Senators the Chinese companies had accepted to have spent 3.8 Milliard dollars and this is authentic statistics. Besides, China had taken help of private individuals and companies to interfere in American elections, e.g. Chinese industrialist Wang Wenliyang gave 120,000 dollars to Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe for campaigning. of China has also taken care of silencing Taiwan or its critics by pressuring the relatives of Chinese-US citizens’ living in China.

 

Education is one way of China to pressure US society. China has opened 110 Confucius Institutes in colleges all over the US and 501 Confucius classes in middle schools. These institutes impart training in Chinese language and culture to students and citizens. The material prepared by the Chinese Communist Party is only allowed to be used in these classes. Besides, the discussion on Tibet, Tiananmen Square, Xinjiang, Falun Gong, or human rights is strictly prohibited. Due to this restriction, many universities including Chicago, Penn State, and Texas A & M have closed these institutions.

 

On the other hand, 350,755 Chinese students have taken admission to American universities in 2017-18 academic year, and 80,000 students have taken admission in schools. However, there has been an accusation against some of the Chinese students and scholars’ organizations of spying on American teachers. Last year in Maryland University student Yang Shuping gave a speech at the convocation ceremony praising the freedom of expression in the US as compared to China. This comment was shared in China on a large scale followed by threat-mails to her and her family in China was subjected to torture.

 

China launched the ‘Grand Overseas Propaganda Campaign’ in 2007 and the government-run Xinhua news agency network was expanded taking the number of its offices to 200 from 120 globally. The programs of government-owned China Global Television Network are telecast in seven languages but China has prohibited telecasts of the US and other western media organizations. Many a journalist has complained of torture and physical beating while working in that country. This is visible in the industry sector too. US House of Representatives had disclosed in 2012 about the threats posed by Huawei and ZTE Chinese companies to US National Security. Both of these companies are accused of bribery and spying. These efforts of China are not just confined to the US. It is poised to spread its wings in Australia, and many countries in Africa and Latin America, this report has mentioned.
