New Delhi, April 24: Following the re-telecasting of Ramayana and Mahabharat received massive viewership during the lockdown, public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati has decided to re-telecast another mythological epic show, 'Shri Krishna' on DD National channel.
They will soon announce the date and time of the telecast. The rerun of Ramanand Sagar‘s Ramayan ended last week and it has been replaced by Uttar Ramayan, which is based on the Uttar Kand of Ramayana. With Mahabharat, too, coming to an end, it seems like Shri Krishna will replace BR Chopra’s epic serial in two-time slots in a day.
Ramanand Sagar's 'Shri Krishna' originally aired between 1993-1996. It remained one of the most-watched shows back in the 90s. It was the first broadcast on Doordarshan's Metro Channel (DD 2) from 1993. And then again in 1996, DD National aired it from the start. The 221-episode show features the life of Lord Krishna.
The show starred Swapnil Joshi as the young Krishna while Sarvadaman Banerjee played the adult Krishna on the show. Interestingly, in the year 1999, the epic TV show was telecasted on Zee TV. Later in 2001, the show was again re-telecasted on Sony and Star - such was the popularity of this epic saga.
This comes after Prasar Bharati decided to re-telecast Mahabharat and Ramayan following people’s demands during the nationwide lockdown. Apart from the mythological shows, Doordarshan has also relaunched its old classic comedies and dramas like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Circus, Chanakya, Rajani, Upanishad Ganga, Shaktimaan, Shriman Shrimati, Krishna Kali, Byomkesh Bakshi, Hum Hain Na, and Tu Tota Main Maina among others to Encourage Viewers to Stay Inside Amid Coronavirus Lockdown.
