Additionally, IOC also announced that skateboarding, sport climbing & surfing will be featured in Paris too.

On Monday, the Olympics took to its official Twitter handle to inform that it had included the activity in the Paris 2024 sports program. “Breaking will make its Olympic Games debut, building on the success of the sport at the Youth Olympic Games,” the committee wrote.

Breakdancing first appeared in Olympic territory as an event at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018. Yet the decision to include it as an event at the 2024 Games wasn’t universally hailed.

According to the Olympics committee, the idea behind the inclusion of the break-dance as the Olympics urban sport is to expand the youth-focused activity and make Olympics more engaging and inclusive for the younger generation outside the arenas. The new agenda was introduced in accordance with the recommendations of the Olympic Programme Commission. Main features of Paris 2024’s Olympic program that will now consist of Break-dance will felicitate 50 percent male and female participation, to promote gender equality.

Breakdancing, which grew up alongside hip hop in the South Bronx of New York in the 1970s and is officially known in sports terms as "breaking", appeared at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, in the form of head-to-head "battles".

The introduction of breaking was "one of the results of the Olympic Agenda 2020", Bach said. "We had a clear priority to introduce sports (that are) particularly popular among the younger generation and taking into consideration the urbanisation of sport."

Meanwhile, Skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will make their Olympic debuts at the Tokyo Games which were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic by one year to open on July 23, 2021.
